The Old Money Assignment July 2022

If you have watched all the videos in my Old Money series on YouTube, you will remember that in the Old Money Book, by Byron Tully we learned all about the core values of Old Money families.

If you did not see my series on YouTube let me let you in on these core values. They are:

  • Health,

  • Education,

  • Strong work ethic,

  • Etiquette and manners,

  • Financial independence,

  • Family and marriage,

  • Privacy.

  • Spirituality.

Often, many of us do not like to talk about money. And in actual fact talking about money is not going to show that you are practicing proper manners or etiquette. But we all know that money helps make the world go round.

This is not to be confused with finding our self-worth in money. However, it is a fact that we need money in order to thrive in life.

This is where I started to become more curious about the Old Money society.
Over the last few months, I have learned that there are specific Old Money values that I want to adopt. But I was finding that if I do not actually make an effort to implement these things… they end up just being something that I learned about, but am never acting on.

Hence the Old Money Assignment was born. Taking slight inspiration from Jennifer L. Scott’s ‘Chic Assignment’, I will be bringing you a monthly assignment and mid-month check-in. This way, we can learn more about adopting Old Money values, and take the time to implement each one.

I hope you enjoy this concept and are excited to get started on this month’s assignment.
So, let’s get into the assignment, shall we?

1. GET ACTIVE AND MOVING IN JULY - BETTER YET, TRY AN EXERCISE THAT YOU HAVE NEVER TRIED BEFORE.

Summer is here (at least for those of us northern hemisphere ), and the weather will never be better than it is now. This is the time to get outside, and get moving!

I myself will be getting moving by joining my personal trainer, Georgie Burke for some personal training sessions this month.. And also be starting Barre Fitness at Georgie’s studio The Barre Fitness Studio.

Ballet, pilates, and yoga are just a few of the diverse training disciplines that are combined in a barre lesson.

The name "barre" refers to the main piece of equipment used in the class.

If you've ever visited a ballet studio, you're probably familiar with this piece of apparatus.

A mat, which you are already familiar with if you've done yoga, as well as free weights, exercise bands, and exercise balls, are among the other pieces of equipment you'll need.

Your teacher will show you how to use each piece of equipment properly, and you can choose how heavy you want your weights to be. To get the best workout possible, they'll explain how you can incorporate the equipment into the lesson.

You can anticipate that barre class will focus on a variety of body parts, including:

Arms\ Legs \ Core \ Glutes

You won't have to worry about high-impact movements like jumping because the exercises are done slowly with the goal of increasing strength and flexibility.

Let me know in the comments how you plan on getting moving this month.

2. SUPPORT FIBROID AWARENESS MONTH - THE BRITISH FIBROID TRUST

In the month of July it is Fibroid Awareness Month. If you are unaware of what Fibroids are, Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the womb (uterus). The growths are made up of muscle and fibrous tissue and vary in size. They're sometimes known as uterine myomas or leiomyomas. Many women are unaware they have fibroids because they do not have any symptoms.

July is Fibroid Awareness Month, an initiative created to draw attention to uterine fibroids, a condition that creates challenges for millions of women around the world. Fibroid Awareness Month is also intended to spur additional research and funding for this common but often under-discussed condition.

British Fibroid Trust is a UK-based voluntary not-for-profit patient support Group that is run by volunteers, and as someone who has personally been affected by Fibroids, I am excited to support this charity this month. I hope you will join me in doing so here.

  1. LISTEN TO BEETHOVEN - SONATA PATHETIQUE

Beethoven is a world renowned classical musician, but do you know much about him? Furthermore, the Sonata Pathetique Op. 13 is so well known, but many of us don’t know the history of it’s origins.

This month’s I want you to listen to this piece, and feel the composition. I put this on when I am doing the dishes, or perhaps if I am writing a letter. And i love the way that I can feel the changes within the music.

This piece was written in 1798, when Beethoven was 27, and published in 1799. The work is commonly named Pathétique due to the tragic and expressive nature of the music. The piece features extreme dynamics and pitch as well as virtuosity , which was very forward-looking for its time.

Piano Sonata No.8, Pathétique, is one of the most celebrated of Beethoven’s works from the Classical period

Have you heard it before? How does it make you feel?

4. READ A BOOK THIS MONTH - WANT TO JOIN ME WITH WHAT I AM READING? I AM READING STOCK MARKET 101.

If you are wanting to adopt the values of Old Money, you will want to always be reading. As someone who is neurodivergent, I can sometimes struggle with my concentration when reading. But I can honestly say, that reading has truly enriched my life these past 6 months.

When you read, you have so much more to say, you are more versed on a wider knowledge of topics, and this is so much more interesting to conversate over.

However, I have personally been struggling to get leisure reading in, as I have been reading so much for work. With that being said, about 6 months ago I purchased this Stock Market 101 book, and I am challenging myself to finish it this month.

Stocks are something that I am wanting to expand my knowledge on, and this book is already looking like the perfect place to start this journey.

Let me know in the comments what book you plan on reading this month.

5. STUDY OLD MONEY EXEMPLAR - JACKIE KENNEDY ONASSIS

If you like an Old Money Aesthetic, or Old Money Fashion, I know you have come across Jackie O. An for very good reason! Her style was timeless & classic, and this is what makes her fashion sense iconic.

Jacqueline Lee Kennedy Onassis (née Bouvier /ˈbuːvieɪ/; July 28, 1929 – May 19, 1994) was an American socialite, writer, photographer, and book editor who served as first lady of the United States from 1961 to 1963, as the wife of President John F.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was noted for her style and elegance. As first lady, she made the White House a showcase for America’s most talented and accomplished individuals and worked to restore the White House to its original elegance and protect its holdings. Following the assassination of her husband President Kennedy, her quiet dignity brought an outpouring of admiration from Americans and people all over the world.

Are you familiar with the story of Jackie Kennedy Onassis? Or are you looking forward to getting to know more about her?

Join in on this assignment by watching the corresponding YouTube video, and leaving your feedback. I hope you enjoy it!
