Festive Candle Making Workshop With Orphic Living

After the last two years of being cooped up at home, one of the things that I want to be more intentional with is… doing workshops.

There are so many things that I have as interests, and it is so easy to sit back and say “ I want to do that one day “ but… if there is anything that I have learned in the last two years, it is that we should take advantage of the opportunity, the time, and the resources that we have … and actually do the things that we say that we want to do.

And one of the things that I have wanted to do for a while now is… making candles!

I didn’t think that making candles was going to be extremely difficult. However one of the reasons that I wanted to start exploring different workshops is… it is something that can be done with friends.

This way, we can ‘kill two birds, with one stone.’

1. Learn a new skill, and have fun through the entertainment of that
2. Be more intentional about setting the time aside in my diary to hang out with my friends

You see, pre-pandemic I was always working, and it was so hard for me to set aside time to hang out with my friends. And not only have we become closer through the pandemic, but I am really starting to see that life can be so fleeting. So we should do our best to enjoy it whilst we can.

We had the lovely Em from Orphic Living pop over to Bristol, and show us how to make our candles.

In this workshop, you will learn the basics of soy candle making and pick up tips & tricks to make your own candles at home.

Once you’ve learned the techniques, you will choose from a variety of pre-blended scents from the Orphic Living fragrance library and make your very own 135g soy candle and tealights to take home & enjoy.

Em brought a selection of her festive fragrances with her, and we were able to choose which fragrance we liked most. She also walked us through a little activity where we could write down what each fragrance reminded us of.

As someone who lives far away from most of their loved ones, I thought this could even be a really fun exercise to do over zoom with some of my friends back at home.

Or even to do with some of my YouTube subscribers. Let me know if this would be of any interest to to you, and perhaps we can set it up next year!

Sometimes half of the ‘battle’ when it comes to doing things like this, is having a group of people willing to do it with you. At least that what I have found in the past. There were things that I wanted to do, perhaps workshops that I wanted to attend, but was unable to do so, or didn’t feel comfortable in doing so, because I had no one to go with.

With this group of my lovely friends, I have found that because we often go to ‘blogging’ events together, and there often is a activity element that happens at these events…. I found that this was right up our alley.

Some of the workshops that I would like to do in the future would be:

  • Watercolour painting

  • Wreath making

  • Perfume making

  • Calligraphy

  • Soap making

Have any suggestions that you think I should add to the list?
