6 Ways You Can Use Accessories To Cultivate Your Poise.
Have you ever wondered how you can utilise your accessories to cultivate your poise?
To quote the lovely Coco Chanel...
Accessories have the ability to elevate your look, or completely bring your look down
And with saying that, in today's post, I thought we could talk about some of the easy ways that you can cultivate your poise with accessories.
1. DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND.
We have all heard that saying, haven't we? I've never met a lady who would say no to diamonds. But did you know that there are appropriate occasions to wear your diamonds?
And in turn, naturally, there are going to be times when it is inappropriate to wear your diamonds.
The unwritten rule in the British Royal Family is that large and important diamonds are to only be worn after 6 p.m.
Now, this is not to say that diamonds cannot be enjoyed in the daytime. It is the size of the stone and of the piece that determines the time of day that they may be tastefully worn.
We live in a day and age where people are constantly flaunting what they have. And it is so "Nouveau Riche".
Why not adopt a mindset of wearing diamonds after 6 PM. Now that this has been brought to your attention, I bet you will notice certain elegant ladies that you admire... refrain from wearing their biggest diamonds in everyday circumstances.
I personally love wearing pearls during the day... and you may be totally thinking, 'pearls are so outdated'.
But let me tell you my dear elegant ladies, pearls are timeless. And they can still be worn in ways that don't feel like they should be donned by your grandmother.
I personally am loving my Mejuri drop pearl earrings. They're delicate, they're dainty, they're timeless.
I love that Mejuri is a mid-tier range that I can easily add pieces into my life. However, it is a goal of mine to start adding one high-end piece to my collection each year. And my husband is on board with this.
In the future, we may try to get each other a new piece for Valentine's day each year. This is a way that we can sustainably build our collection. And who knows, maybe this is how we start cultivating our precious heirlooms to pass down to our children one day.
2. A GOOD PAIR OF SHOES
Have you ever invested in a high-quality shoe? High quality doesn't always mean designer, and designer doesn't always mean high quality.
I was recently introduced to Sarah Flint, and was gifted a pair of loafers from the brand. And I have to tell you, it is truly the best pair of shoes that I have ever put on.
Sarah Flint shoes are handcrafted in Italy by the artisans who make the highest quality luxury shoes in the world. Inspired by you. They obsess over the details.
Sarah makes sure that her brand sources the most exceptional materials, from triple-dyed Italian suedes to jacquards woven in 300-year-old British mills.
Once they’re crafted, Sarah Flint's shoes then go through rounds of prototyping and fit-testing, because Sarah won’t give you what she wouldn’t wear herself.
Sarah Flint partners with the top artisans and family-owned factories in Italy, recognizing the generational knowledge behind each handcrafted design.
While many brands only assemble the shoes in Italy and do the stitching or cutting elsewhere, Sarah Flint shoes are 100% certified made in Italy alongside the leading luxury names in the world.
Like I mentioned with the jewelry, my husband, Paul & I are both looking at expanding on our high-quality footwear collection. And will be doing so one shoe a year at a time. If it proves sustainable for us to acquire more than this in one calendar year, of course, we will make that happen.
But for now, this is a way that we feel that we can level-up our wardrobe in a sustainable way.
3. SCARVES ARE THE MOST UNDERRATED HERO.
It's easy to look back on the old Hollywood glamour days, and see elegant ladies wearing scarves. When did this stop?
To quote Audrey Hepburn:
It is quite easy to find affordable scarves amongst the majority of your favourite high street retailers.
And with saying that, you can definitely start playing around with this style by picking up a cost-friendly option first.
I personally have a scarf from Alexander McQueen, although I find it quite outdated. And its skulls don't represent how I would like to show up in the world.
However, I have just come across the brand Aavelle, and they have some stunning pieces in their collection.
If your budget permits, you can definitely seek out a designer brand for this. I absolutely love Hermes scarves, their designs and colour schemes tend to be timeless.
4. HANDBAGS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS
One of the easiest ways you can lose your poise, and look disheveled is when you are using handbags that are not appropriate for the occasion.
We have all seen a woman who is stuffing all of her paperwork into a handbag that is not suited for these sorts of contents.
Equally, I think it is safe to say that we have seen women who are using diamonte clutches for their daytime brunch outfits. Which can look quite tactless.
What I have found works best is:
Have an elegant tote bag for everyday use
Have a clutch for dinner dates and cocktail hours
Have a crossbody for those elegant days out, but is still functional
When donning your daily handbag, ask yourself, "what does my look convey to people"?
5. PYJAMA’S, SLEEPWEAR & LINGERIE
They say, you should always wear pretty pajamas to bed, as you never know who you will meet in your dreams.
Ladies, be honest. What does your pajama drawer look like?
This is an area that I have fallen short in, and have done myself no favours.
I think it is easy to fall short in this department, as no one typically sees you in this. And perhaps, we only wear it for such a short period of the day, we think... "why should we invest".
For myself personally, those were all of the reasons why I wasn't investing in my sleepwear. But also, because I find it quite difficult to find elegant, & feminine sleepwear that is also supportive of my chest.
Do any of you ladies remember the scene from "Eat, Pray, Love", when Liz Gilbert is wanting to pick up the beautiful Italian silk nightgown?
And she says to her friend, why purchase it... she has no one to wear it for? And her friend reminds her, that she has herself to wear it for.
This is the approach that I am looking at taking when investing in my lingerie & pajamas... and I am sure my husband won't mind either.
I am still on the hunt for pyjamas and lingerie that are great for ladies who have bigger chests. If you have any recommendations, I would love to hear them in the comment section.
6. HOUSE SLIPPERS THAT LEVEL YOU UP.
Have you ever put your foot inside a pair of new Uggs? You will truly feel like you are walking on clouds.
However, it goes without saying that a pair of Uggs aren't going to allow you to feel your most leveled up, around the home.
I do think that there is a time and place for Uggs. But if I was being honest, when I wear a pair of Uggs, I definitely want to put on a pair of comfy sweat pants. Which really, isn't chic.
This is where I have become obsessed with the idea of Venetian loafers. Have you seen them before?
For all of the same reasons that I mentioned my love for the brand Sarah Flint, you can also find high-quality, artisan-made Venetian Loafers.
The current brand that I have my eye on is called, Calita's Shoes.
They are a brand that I keep seeing on Instagram. And unfortunately at the time of me writing this blog post, their website isn't very informative.
But why I love them is, is that they are a bit quirky, but still look quite elegant.
I may purchase a set for my husband and me in the next few months. Subscribe to this blog to find out what we think of them once they arrive.
What chic accessories do you wear that help you cultivate your poise? I would love to hear your recommendations in the comments.
Best wishes,
